Hi everyone. I’m back after a short break from blogging (a few days counts as a break, right?). I have to say, I was overwhelmed with the messages of encouragement I received pretty much as soon as my last post went up – it was unexpected and much appreciated. I was also pleasantly surprised to know a fourteen year old (Alice) was “gutted” and that I’m officially down with the youth of today (her Mum’s words!).Β  However, on a serious note, there are going to be some changes around these here parts.

Due to various reasons I will no longer be putting photos of Hubby, Little Man and myself on here – unless the angle or my awesome camera skillz makes them unidentifiable. You may notice that previous blog posts have been/will be re-worked to remove any pictures that showed us in full view (luckily for me there isn’t many). A brief explanation as to why I was thinking of stopping:

1. To protect the privacy of my loved ones (so please, do not use their real names when leaving comments. Little Man and Hubby is fine or if you prefer, Dr Jedi Van Fro and Copperhead);

2. Due to career ambitions and potential implications it could cause later down the track;

3. I’m also not going to lie, I do worry about strangers reading my blog and having access to photos of my son. I’ve watched Law & Order: SVU so know about these things;

4. I was also greatly concerned with how my sharing would impact LM in later years – I will be embarrassing enough as it it without his classmates dredging up boyhood stories of him!

5. I always have had, and probably always will, an uneasiness about the permanency of internet content and social media. I am aware I am particularly mindful when it comes to sharing and what might seem like a simple photo or tidbit of information to some can cause me to have nervous twitch. It’s primarily the reason I don’t share many pictures of LM on my personal Facebook page. On the other hand, in years to come LM will always have this blog to read.

I’m also embarking on some tertiary study which greatly influenced my thought process regarding the blog – put simply, will I have enough time? I’m thinking that the regularity of my posting may be less frequent. I normally post 3-4 times per week but it now may only be once a week or fortnight – I’m still figuring that part out and what time will be available with my new workload. Posting might be a little erratic during this first semester until I find my feet.

Anyway, I’m glad to be back – I hope you’re pleased about it too? Or is it just all about this guy…?

I’m also curious to know, what are your thoughts on sharing and social media? Does it not bother you at all or are you someone who is very careful?

Until next time,

  1. Hi Katie, I’m so glad you are continuing, I was feeling so sad of not getting Oscar updates but was really going to miss your quirky, hilarious and beautiful outlook on life!!! I really look forward to reading your blog it makes me as happy as the colour yellow!!! πŸ™‚ As for privacy I’m happy with uploading photos on Facebook due to their privacy settings you can access but as for the rest you are talking to a lady who thinks even those family stickers on the back of cars is a gateway of letting potential stalkers know too much about yourself especially if they followed you home!!!

    Thank you for sharing your life with me xxoo Jade

    1. When you say quirky you mean weird, right? Lol – I kid. Thank you so much for your lovely comment Jade and I’m totally with you on the My Family stickers. Except for the time I was going to get a single woman and about 30 cats for my rear window – Hubby wouldn’t allow it πŸ™

  2. I’m glad you’re going to continue posting! Not only do you have 14 year old alice but you also have myself (soon to be 16) so your posts are definitely popular with the youth as well! πŸ™‚ I look forward to future posts πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks! I’m so pleased to find I have Readers in various age groups – hopefully Little Man feels the same way when he’s your age πŸ˜‰

  3. Really happy your blog is staying, I love reading about little mans and oscars adventures…brightens up my day. You have a knack for writing, photography etc…well I think you do

    1. I feel like I should say “oh, stop it!” but I really want you to keep going. Lol! Thank you so much for your lovely words Carrie, it really means a lot to me when people say it brightens up their day. Oscar will also be most pleased πŸ˜‰

  4. So glad The Cat Bed is back!!! I love your humour and your crafty posts πŸ™‚
    I do worry about privacy on social media, but my personal profile is locked down pretty tight from the weirdos out there and I will never post a topless / pants less image of my daughter on my page regardless of how private it is. I also never add people I don’t know, and don’t keep people on my friends list who don’t talk to me (harsh, but fair I think!) I never check into places, nor do I boast about up coming holidays as I think that is a massive advertisement that you are not at home.

    1. Yay – someone likes my dodgy crafts!!! Tell me, have you tried to make trees from your cereal boxes since I posted a how to? πŸ˜‰ Seriously, I’m so with you on the social media and privacy front. Sometimes I cringe when I see what people post, over-sharing is just not for me, especially regarding kids. I also think it’s great you have the courage to de-friend people on friends lists, I too try and have only the people I would talk to in person.
