On Monday night Copperhead was up with us until around 8:30pm due to overall sickness and her cough keeping her awake. I had scheduled a doctors appointment for her for first thing Tuesday. As you can imagine, getting out of the house requires a deceptively large amount of time so Hubby said he’d help me get the girls ready and go into work late. Naturally this was a day the girls slept in and had to be woken up!
Little Red was first up (which is unheard of!) and had such a crusty nose. Then, I made lots of noise while getting Baby Bear all sorted with her breakfast before waking C. She was unable to open her eyes because of all the gunk. Thankfully she didn’t panic – I think I was more distressed – and we carefully cleaned her up with cotton wool and warm water.
The doctor confirmed that C was in pretty bad shape. Taking the assumption that LR is a day behind in illness, we made the decision to give them both antibiotics for their chests. Her MRI is looming and we’d obviously like her in as perfect health as possible for the general. C has the added bonus of eye drops.
After seeing the doctor both girls suddenly hated the idea of going back into the pram. I’d used all of my food bribes whilst waiting so, as I let C entertain the waiting room, I struggled to get a planking and screaming LR into her seat. Practically bowing out of the packed reception, who all seemed to be watching, I carried a contented C and pushed her hysterical sister back to the car.
I decided to power on ahead to get the medication instead of going straight home. I also grabbed a few daily essentials like a gallon of milk and some chocolate before going home and dosing the girls up and putting them down for their naps.
STYLISH HATS & BOOK CLUB
That afternoon the girls perked up a little and found the cool hats our friends had given them when we visited Queensland. Twenty minutes of swapping and changing and wearing them on jaunty angles went by before the daily book club began.
Obviously the book Little Red really wanted was right at the bottom…
After all that it was time for cuddles with the poorly girl complete with some pigtail tickles…
It’s days like these that make the distances from family really apparent. We’re lucky that Hubby’s work place are so understanding and that he is able to be somewhat flexible. But, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I do still miss that other kind of help. The special kind that grandparents provide. It’s not just about the physical side, it’d have been great to drop in for a cuppa and have a chat after such a big morning. I think I miss those kind of moments the most.
Here’s to appreciating the fact we actually have such lovely people to miss and wishes for a healthier Wednesday.
