I love it when kids show their artistic side. They each have their own unique take on creativity. Little Man especially loves painting and, although I find the preparation and clear up exhausting sometimes, I try to embrace it. Recently I got some cheap water colours and set him up while his sisters were having lunch (and trapped in their chairs).

HAPPY HOUR

He will often happily sit and paint for an hour or so. Quiet and content, curiously watched by his sisters (and sometimes Oscar).

On this particular occasion, Little Man initially went in quite heavily with the black paint. I briefly wondered if he was having a complete emo moment before he declared that he was painting Batman. I imagined copious amounts of black Batman paintings adorning our fridge. Hubby may even assume they were done by me during a PND episode.

I constantly fight the urge to suggest using all the colours of the rainbow like I would. I’m sure most parents have moments where they start taking over before realising their child is no longer having fun. My suggestions are also usually met with a big fat no so I pretty much left him to it and kept the girls lunch courses coming.

However, Little Man did end up introducing some colour and below is his masterpiece!

THE MASTERPIECE

We’ve gotten into the routine of putting our favourite art of Little Man’s on a cupboard door in the laundry. He often tells me which one to pick and will excitedly help me put it into position.

We both get genuinely excited and proud by this process.

During the height of my Post Natal Depression, getting the paints out felt like such an ordeal and an achievement. It’s always worth it though, so worth it.

Love,
