Dear Little Man,
First and foremost let me start by telling you that I love you, and secondly…
HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY!”
In the blink of an eye you’ve gone from being my tiny baby to a strapping lad. As you continually like to remind me, you’re now nearly as tall as my “boobies”.
You’ve always been compassionate and a social butterfly even if you’re yet to master reading the moods of other children. I hope you never lose that caring quality. It seems to be so natural for you that when I witness it, it makes my heart warm and fuzzy.
THE BEST BIG BROTHER
I’ve always said you were made for being a big brother, and I can confidently say that so far you’ve proven me right! Sometimes, it’s easy for me to forget that you are still quite young because of the emotional maturity in how you’ve handled the arrival of your twin sisters.
I also have to say how you help me out so much, and I have to confess that you’re not always willing. I know it seems like I expect a lot from you, and perhaps that’s wrong of me sometimes. Now it’s actually gotten to the point where your sisters immediately demand you take their shoes off whenever we get through the front door! Most of the time though, you’re always happy to help, especially when it comes to your baby girls.
As much as they can be an annoyance for you with the way they follow you around or want to play with all of your cars, I’m fairly certain you wouldn’t have it any other way. They absolutely adore you, and I don’t blame them. They ask for you as soon as they wake and throughout the day when you’re at daycare. You won’t know that they sometimes shout for you at lunch time and I have to calm their tears after I tell them that you’re at school.
MY BROTHER, MY PROTECTOR
You have a basic understanding of Little Red’s health issues and I love that you ask questions about it all. You know when she has a doctors appointment and why she has special shoes. Indeed you’re quite desperate to come with us for her physiotherapy so you can do the exercises too. Honestly, I think you just want to be there for her.
The girls really are so fortunate to have you, I hope they appreciate you as they get older. If they don’t, come and see me! Seriously, I really feel like we won the jackpot with you all. Our current family dynamic is bliss and my only hope is that it stays this way.
THE BIG FIVE
We decided to hold you back from school this year. It was a big choice we had to make but know that your teachers agreed with us. I felt an extra year of playing with your mates and getting to know your place in the world wouldn’t be a bad thing. Maybe some of it was perhaps a bit selfish on my part too because I want you at home with me. I’m going to miss you so much when you’re not around everyday. The thought of you being at school terrifies me but I’m determined to make the most of this year with you. In fact, we’re already having a good start what with you taking up gymnastics as well as excelling with your swimming. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if you became quite the athlete when you’re older.
Anyway, enough of my bragging about how amazing you clearly are! Remember what I always tell you, work hard and stay humble.
Happy birthday my beautiful boy. I’m so proud of you and I hope that you like the bike!
All my love, forever and always,
