I was going to say that I just CAN’T BELIEVE it’s been ten years since I arrived in Australia. But then it’s like, “what are you actually saying, Katie? That you can’t believe the inevitable passage of time?”

Unfortunately my whole ten year photo idea did not get off to a great start and you’ll have to use your imagination for the first one…

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS IN AUSTRALIA

After staying with Hubby’s folks on the Sunshine Coast for a few weeks, we soon moved to Brisbane for work. A few months later we went on a trip to Sydney. I’d never really given the Sydney Opera House much thought, or even had a desire to see it. But when I did I was in complete and utter awe. I remember touching the tiles (the “sails”) and thinking “wow”. It was a pretty special experience I have to say.

We visited Cairns which is in North Queensland and it was brilliant. We did a scenic train ride and went to a butterfly sanctuary. Hubby looks very young here. He was also still clearly working on his Blue Steel face.

I have no photos of Thailand so just visualize me as being extremely hot and sweaty.

We made the horrible, horrible mistake of visiting friends in Darwin. In November. I also made the utter rookie mistake of only packing denim shorts. Never again! So. Much. Chafing. Although my inner thighs were redder than the dirt, the sights were really pretty!

Our love affair with Tasmania began during our first visit. Here I am nearly getting blown off Mount Wellington. And yes, I couldn’t put my arms down properly due to the copious amount of layering going on.

I discovered I was pregnant with Little Man a few weeks before our planned trip to Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. I had been looking forward to sampling more scampi pies in Hobart and eating as much of what the great food State has to offer. Instead I got terrible all-day sickness and could only choke down apples and M&Ms for the entire trip. Still, it was an amazing holiday and one we look forward to doing again but with the kids in tow.

With Little Man’s arrival came a delightful period of clothing coordination. We also went on our first family trip, to Melbourne, for my birthday. Hubby managed to get us bumped up to business class using his frequent flyer points and so that was our boy’s first travel experience. Needless to say it has gone horribly downhill from there and we continue to sit with the rest of the riff-raff whenever we fly. I can also personally vouch that I do the same whenever I’m in my car.

I found out I was pregnant when Hubby first mentioned transferring to a new job role. After he had accepted and we started making plans to move we discovered it was twins. So yeah, interesting time. You can see more photos from my maternity shoot here and our Sydney trip here.

COPPERHEAD & LITTLE RED ARRIVED

Well, how can I sum up such a big year? I don’t think I can quite articulate the mammoth experience that was 2016. In all honesty I’m not sure I will be able to for a while!

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS IN AUSTRALIA

We continue to navigate our new life as a family of five and explore the place we now call home. Although I’ve recently written about how ridiculously homesick I currently am, Australia has treated me extremely well. While I can’t say that I feel like a true blue Aussie, I do feel more than welcomed. I know my children would have a great childhood here and I can’t speak badly of the culture, the people nor the landscape. It is my home now and I’m so grateful for it.

Now if only I could get my hands on some proper fish and chips and a Batternburg cake!

Love,
K x
